Glacier People Stories

16th June 2020

With such a diverse and multi-disciplined team of experts within the Glacier Group,  we will be focusing on the career profiles of some of our most talented employees, giving our external stakeholders the opportunity to get to know more about the Glacier business and of course the people that make it all happen.

Career Profile

Craig Roberts, Sales Engineer – Glacier Machining Solutions Division

What is your current role and what does it involve?

My current role at Glacier is Sales Engineer for Glacier’s Products Machining Solutions Division. Whilst my main duties consist of promoting our onsite machining capability, I am very active in selling our wider range of services across the Glacier Group which includes the provision of welding, inspection and heat transfer solutions. This blend of integrated and value-added services ensures our clients’ engineering and asset integrity projects can be delivered more safely, reliably and cost-effectively, through a single-source provider.

What is your career history and how did you get to where you are today?

I served my apprenticeship with Roberts Machining Solutions which is now Glacier Machining Solutions, since the acquisition back in 2011. After five years, I transferred to the onsite machining team where I spent six years working in a technical role for a wide range of international and offshore projects. This was a great experience for me as I really got to learn more about the products and their technical capabilities. Two years ago, I moved into a sales role, which is where I am today.

What do you most enjoy about working at Glacier Energy Services?

I really enjoy the challenge of working in a sales environment and the thrill of winning new work. Over the years, I have been involved in securing a number of high-profile pipeline machining projects which has given me a great sense of job satisfaction. I also really enjoy engaging with customers, old and new, and being able to solve their unique technical and project challenges.

How has the business changed since you first joined the company?

When I started my work experience at Roberts Machining Solutions, we solely concentrated on the manufacturing of pipe cutting and bevelling machine tools.  Since then, Glacier has added a broader range of products and services to its portfolio in response to growing global market demand. This has been hugely beneficial as we now have a much more comprehensive offering to meet the machining needs of our clients across all market sectors.

How do you see your role evolving in the future?

My ambition is to keep growing and evolving the Machining Solutions Division and follow in the footsteps of my father and grandfather who founded the company in 1953, and made it into the huge success it is today. Some of the equipment we have developed over the years has set the benchmark in machine cutting technology and I would like to continue building on this legacy and capability. Furthermore, I want to ensure that Glacier remains the go-to company for all our clients’ machining challenges and that we continue to build on our track record for providing the highest levels of performance, strength, speed and accuracy with our technology and equipment.
