Inspection and Maintenance Services for the Wind Industry

"We help businesses extend the lifespan of equipment and maximise the availability and production capability of wind turbines."

With more than 11,000 wind turbines currently operating to produce nearly a quarter of the UK’s electricity, wind energy has become one of the most important sources of renewable energy. The UK government’s 10-point plan to achieve net-zero by 2050 is gaining momentum and wind energy is only expected to continue to grow in the years to come. To meet the net zero target, the UK government has ambitious plans for the wind industry. This includes aiming to produce enough electricity through offshore wind to power every home in the UK and to produce 1GW of energy from floating offshore wind by 2030.

With the 10-point plan driving progress, it could be said that the UK is at the forefront of wind energy. The UK has the most installed capacity for offshore wind in comparison to any other country and is home to some of the largest windfarms including Walney, Dogger Bank, Beatrice, Gwynt y Mor and Whitelee. In fact, the Hornsea 1 wind farm, located just off the coast of Yorkshire is the largest offshore wind farm in the world at 1,218 MW.

Inspection Experts

Even though there has been significant progress made throughout the industry in the journey to net zero, to meet the UK Governments ambitious plans, we must all work together to do more. This is where Glacier Energy comes in. We can take care of the inspection and maintenance work required to minimise downtime and ensure that you extend the life of your wind farms, both on and offshore.

Glacier Energy has been present in the wind industry for more than 30 years. Over this time, we’ve been busy supporting our clients with NDT services on the fabrication of monopiles and transition pieces for wind farms in the UK and across Europe. By using techniques such as phased array ultrasonic testing, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle inspection and dye penetrant inspection, we have been involved in various large-scale projects over the years and continue to be a highly valued partner to our clients.

Carbon Capture

Due to the realisation of the potential of wind energy in the renewable space in the UK and overseas, many businesses are now diversifying their portfolio into the wind industry. However, It is clear Glacier Energy is the trusted, experienced and reliable partner that you need in the journey to net zero. We help you keep the process simple to meet your goal of extending the lifespan of your equipment and maximising the availability and production capability of your wind turbines.

Excellence in Partnership & Collaboration

“When the situation is as difficult as it’s been in this project due to weather and wind, open and honest communication is essential. The guys have really been cracking on, done a fantastic job to bring the project to completion. They have demonstrated the will to go over the top to deliver for their customer. I want to send my best regards to the team and really point out that the collaboration with Glacier Energy has been really good” – Technical Manager, Asset Management Company

Tower Flanges and Shell Joints

Glacier Energy’s client required an assessment of the integrity of tower flanges and shell joints on multiple wind farm sites across Europe.

Rope Access

We understand the importance of wind energy in the net zero UK and global strategy. That’s why we have expanded our offering and pioneered a rope access division, taking our capabilities that one step further to support the wind industry, both on and offshore.

Our rope access division offers you an additional alternative for accessing the work area. This combined with our extensive inspection knowledge allows us to carry out all advanced and conventional inspection via rope access to keep your infrastructure operating efficiently. Whether it be in-service inspection of structural welds of wind turbines, UT inspection of anchor bolts, connector bolts, inspection of gear box and generators securing frames or even for the inspection of hub connectors, our highly experienced team are here to help you.

In addition, we also offer phased array ultrasonic testing of composite material, internal and external close visual inspection (CVI), lightening protection system survey, UAV inspection, blade repair and coating inspection / repair.

Safe and Flexible

To provide you with peace of mind throughout the scope, we always ensure a safe working environment. We have rigorous safety regulations in place along with level 3 supervisors present for the full work scope. We pride ourselves in providing you with the most flexible, safe and cost-effective method to carry out your required projects.
