Field Supervisor

Department: Machining Solutions Division

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Job Purpose

  • Provide Site Leadership and act as GMS focal point to customer’s for site work scopes and projects, whilst continually maintaining the highest level of safety.
  • To proactively develop technical solutions and new initiatives to delivery onsite machining contracts.
  • Proactivity involvement of assuring the competency standards of technicians are assessed and recorded.
  • Act as mentor in the development of Site Technicians providing Technical assistance, practical training and Instruction of field reporting documentation and customer timesheets are to the highest level.
  • Ensures that all maintenance of site machines equipment is kept to the highest standards.
  • Provide technical support to the Operations Teams and assist with best practice development.
  • Carryout Technical Surveys to define the complete work scope, equipment, special application fixtures and customers expectations from GMS.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Developing field staff to the highest standard and reviewing training requirements of field staff with the Operations Manager.
  • Collation of all relevant Technical support documentation required for key projects, ensure a comprehensive and professional response in conjunction with the operations support team.
  • Provide technical support to all field technicians for the day-to-day requirements on key projects, having due regard to the efficiency, safety, quality, budgets and timescales of the jobs undertaken.
  • Carry out Technical Site Surveys to secure business in all Global regions onshore and offshore.
  • Work in a manner, which protects the health, safety and welfare of self and others.
  • Actively participate in Company improvement initiatives.
  • Adheres to all Company policies and procedures including quality, safety, environmental and HR.
  • Attends customer meetings as required to support contracts. Involvement will range from analysing needs to presenting proposals.
  • Willing to travel within the UK / Overseas and develop relationships with GMS Regional offices and Key customers.

Knowledge & Experience

  • At least 10 year’s experience of working in a Site Machining related role.
  • Good mechanical engineering knowledge.
  • Sound educational background minimum HNC mechanical engineering preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, influencing and organisational skills.
  • Team and goal oriented.
  • Strong analytical skills coupled with practical, hands-on problem-solving approach.
  • High energy and drive.
  • IT literate with specific experience using Microsoft Excel & Word.

Scope of Position

  • All GMS Locations
  • Responsibility for field management of GMS jobs and projects.
  • Provide Leadership for Technician Development and Competency.
  • Technical assistance to operations for equipment / tooling selection for work scopes.

Organisation

  • Works within the GMS service business.
  • Reports to Service Operations Manager
