Challenge

Glacier Energy was engaged to provide Internal and External Close Visual Inspection and Lightening Protection System Surveys on twenty 163m wind turbine generators (WTGs) in Sweden.

Normally these inspections would take place during the summer, but due to client requirements this was carried out during winter/spring in temperatures of -15 to -4 (equivalent of -21 to -9 with wind chill, allowing a working window of less than 30 minutes before frostbite occurs).

Solutions

Glacier Energy mobilised a highly experienced Rope Access inspection team to perform Close Visual Inspection and Lightening Protection System surveys.

Working to stringent Risk Assessments and Method Statements and utilising a layering system along with specialist PPE, we successfully performed Inspection of the turbines in a safe working environment meeting client timeline.

Benefits

Customer was very satisfied with the performance of Glacier Energy’s Inspection team.

End of warranty inspection performed within client's critical timeline.

Ensured our customer maximised the availability and production capability of their turbines, ensuring downtime was kept to a minimum.
